Connect BigCommerce
Write-back updates your BigCommerce product and variant prices directly, through BigCommerce's single-click app install.
What you need
- The Max or Enterprise plan — BigCommerce write-back, like the other platform connectors, ships on Max and Enterprise.
- A BigCommerce store owner, or a staff account allowed to install apps on the store.
- Your MarginTide workspace currency set to match your BigCommerce store's currency. If they don't match, the connection is refused rather than writing prices in the wrong currency.
Install
- Go to Settings → Integrations and choose BigCommerce, or install directly from the BigCommerce Marketplace or Apps → My Apps → My Draft Apps in your store's control panel — all three paths land you on the same install flow.
- Approve the app's requested access in BigCommerce.
- BigCommerce hands you a one-time claim link, good for 15 minutes.
Claim the install
- Open the claim link. It takes you to MarginTide's Settings, signed in as yourself.
- The claim page shows which BigCommerce store and account installed the app, so you can confirm you recognize it before continuing.
- Confirm the claim as an admin or owner of the workspace you want connected. MarginTide checks the store's currency against your workspace currency and only completes the connection when they match.
- If the link expired before you claimed it, reopen the app from your BigCommerce control panel — that issues a fresh 15-minute link.
Claiming is admin/owner-only, and each claim link works once. If you see a store or account you don't recognize, don't confirm the claim — the install stays unclaimed until someone who does recognize it claims it, or an admin uninstalls the app in BigCommerce.
What write-back changes
Write-back updates the price field on BigCommerce products and their variants. It does not touch a product's sale price or any Price List override — those continue to apply on top of the price write-back sets, so a product's storefront price can still differ from what write-back wrote if a sale price or Price List is active.
Reopening the app
Open the app again from your BigCommerce control panel at any time:
- Already connected — you'll see "Connected," with a link to open MarginTide.
- Installed but not yet claimed — reopening issues a fresh claim link (the old one no longer works).
- Not connected — this means the workspace side was disconnected while the app is still installed in BigCommerce; uninstall and reinstall to reconnect.
Disconnect vs uninstall
Disconnecting from MarginTide's Settings stops write-back from that workspace but leaves the app installed in BigCommerce — reopening it from BigCommerce shows "Not connected" until you reinstall.
Uninstalling the app in BigCommerce is the other direction: BigCommerce notifies MarginTide, and every workspace linked to that store is disconnected and notified. Uninstall when you want the connection gone everywhere, not just in one workspace.
Troubleshooting
| Code | What it means |
|---|---|
scope_missing | BigCommerce didn't grant one of the permissions the app needs. Reinstall and approve the full access request. |
exchange_failed | BigCommerce rejected the install handshake. Try installing again; if it keeps happening, uninstall and reinstall the app. |
claim_invalid | The claim link was already used, expired, or is no longer valid. Reopen the app in BigCommerce to get a fresh link. |
currency_mismatch | The store's currency doesn't match your workspace currency. Update your workspace currency, or connect a store in the matching currency, then claim again. |
not_admin | You need to be an admin or owner of the workspace to claim an install. Ask an admin or owner to claim it, or have them add you as one. |
sku_not_found | The SKU on a recommendation doesn't match any product or variant in your BigCommerce catalog. Check that the SKU is correct and current. |
ambiguous_sku | More than one product or variant shares that SKU in BigCommerce. Make SKUs unique in your catalog so write-back can tell them apart. |
transport_failed | A network or BigCommerce-side issue interrupted the request. It's usually safe to try again shortly. |
Tips
- Test a new connection on a single low-risk product before approving a full batch of recommendations through it.
- If your workspace currency ever changes, reconnect with a store in the new currency; a mismatched currency blocks the connection rather than writing the wrong amount.
Go further
- Push accepted prices to your store — how write-back and approvals work across every connector.
- Set pricing policies & guardrails — the rules write-back respects.
- Invite your team & set roles — assign the approver role.
